Louise M. Boggs, Matriarch, Christian and Activist

I was honored to attend a Homegoing Service today for Louise M. Boggs.  She was born on March 10, 1919.  She married at 16.  She was a retired Federal employee.  We adopted each other  as Grandmother and Grandson about 32 years ago.   I used to love going to her house becaue it was a house full of women.  I was truly the man when I was there :-). She was 92 years old when she passed away fom this earthly life last Tuesday. 

Her services at St. Charles Borromeo Church yoday was a testimony to the wonerful life that she lived.  Father John mentioned all of the wonderful things that she did for her church.  I read a City Council Citation today that was based on her community service.  She leaves 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  She lives on in my heart and I am a better person for the time I was able to spend in her presence.  Love you always Bubbie!

Boardwalk Empire Season 4 Finale: Why Maybelle?

The finale of Boardwalk Empire addressed a couple of story lines last night.  I wanted to see Dr. Narcisse meet his maker but it didn't happen.  He was holding Chalky's daughter Maybelle hostage after a chance meeting at the Club Onyx and she unfortunately did not make it out of the club alive.  Chalky's bargaining chip was that he knew where Daughter was hiding and Narcisse had to have her back.  This was a twisted relationship because he had killed her mother during an encounter for hire in the story line. The Karankawas: An Extinct Indian Tribe that Lived and Walked in the U.S.

I am reading a book entitled Empires, Nations, and Families: A New History of the North American West.  It is non-fiction and a nice break from my run of James Patterson and Eric Jerome Dickey Novels.  It is a tough read and focuses on some families that were instrumental in attaining fortunes and helping to 'settle'  present day America west of Saint Louis.  I hate the world settle because it makes it seem like the land wasn't settled before encroachment of Anglo-American settlers. I am amazed by the number of Indian tribes mentioned in the book.  I remember the Comanches, Navajos, Apaches and Cherokees from watching western movies while growing up.  I am presently reading a chapter in which it mentions Osage tribes.  I want to recount a number of other tribes which all have a history that should be told in this country: Umpqua, Clatsops, Cocos, Wacos, Wichitas, Tonkawas, Pawnees, Arapahos, Pascagoulas, Alabamas and Choctaws.  It is amazing th...

Hello NCAA: The Paterno Restored Wins Must Go!!

It was recently revealed by an insurance company investigating the allegations of child abuse against former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky that instances of child abuse were occurring in the 1970's in Happy Valley.  Almost immediately, new Penn State president blamed innuendo and social media for the resulting I told you so's from those of us that haven't raised Joe Paterno to the level of Saint Hood that many people want him elevated to.  Before skewering victims of the abuse, maybe President Barron could have researched the allegations and expressed some reverence for the victims. Penn State has already settled with many of the victims to the tune of over $60 million to 26 victims of abuse.  It is not alleged abuse anymore because Jerry Sandusky was tried and convicted in a court of law.  His wife still believes in his innocence.  His own adopted son was one of the victims of his predilection for fondling and showering with young boys....
